ACCESS is a very helpful program that offers many courses across the state of Alabama. It stands for Alabama Connecting Classroom Educator and Students Statewide. It allows students to take courses on line from different teachers. The program allows students to choose electives and advanced classes that their school may not offer. This "distance learning" technique where teachers and students are not in the same classroom, are available as web-based classroom or video conferencing. Video conferencing can be a very good thing. It can provide more teachers, team-teaching between schools and developing teachers to be apart of another school culture.
Some of the challenges, however, would be organization, and keeping the students interested and feeling apart may be difficult. Students benefit from ACCESS in many ways. Hopefully Alabama will promote ACCESS more and more to help students and teachers. This system is probably something that I wouldn’t use because of elementary level that I want to teach, but I feel it’s great for middle and high schools.
